What They Are Saying About The Cape Club

Cape Classic - Troon Golf & Travel By David Gould

Golf teaches us to cope with frustration. Testing our ability to endure difficult days, the game helps us summon the strength to handle adversity. This is true in general, but it doesn’t apply to The Cape Club — a redesigned, re-imagined, and rebuilt upscale golf resort in the beloved Cape Cod town of Falmouth, Mass. This entire property — on 130 wooded acres surrounded by scenic beaches and historic harbors — is there to make you forget your worries and have a wicked awesome time, to express it the way a local might. Since late 2014 a series of dramatic changes has swept through the property, site of a former private club that ran into financial difficulties. Ron Despain, Troon’s Vice President of Golf Course Development, was tabbed to erase the previous course and give this inspiring acreage the brand of golf its natural contours deserve. Cape Club a fine addition to Cape Cod golf scene - Golf Advisor.com. By Mike Bailey
While traffic can sometimes be a problem in the congested Northeast, nothing is too far in terms of mileage. So from Rhode Island, it's a just a hop, skip and jump to the beginning of Cape Cod, which was the next stop on our New England journey. While I would have loved to explore the entire Cape...time only allowed for a visit to the new Cape Club by Troon in Falmouth, Mass. on the southwest end of the Cape, some 90 minutes from Providence. The diversion was well worth it. I actually got to play The Cape Club before it opened on Aug. 3. And while I never played it when it was the private Ballymeade Country Club, it doesn't take much imagination to see the improvement of this new design. The old design was tight with crowned fairways and blind shots. The new course, which is part of a new resort and open to the public, has wide fairways, friendly contours and magnificent new greens and tees, some of them elevated. No doubt, The Cape Club is one of the best public courses not only on the Cape, but also in New England after its transformation. CLICK HERE to read complete article.

Brand New: The Cape Club in New Falmouth, Massachusetts is nothing like its predecessor - Golf Advisor.com
FALMOUTH, Mass. -- Nearly two years in the making, The Cape Club  is a brand new golf course built over the old Ballymeade Country Club, which had run into hard times in recent years. The new course, which can be stretched to around 7,200 yards, is an all-new design, spearheaded by Troon's Vice President of Golf Course Development Ron Despain, together with Troon's development department and the course's new ownership group. In addition to the new golf course, a state-of-the-art driving range and practice facilities were also added, the clubhouse was extensively renovated and there's a new restaurant. And while Ballymeade was private, The Cape Club is strictly daily fee, offering the "country club for a day" experience to locals and visitors alike. The new course features bentgrass fairways and greens, Augusta-like white sand bunkers, new irrigation and drainage and a new state of art golf cart fleet with GPS yardage, food-and-beverage ordering capabilities, USB charging ports, and bucket seats. Cart paths were created using white crushed stone to match the look of the bunkers. CLICK HERE to read complete article

So long, Ballymeade; Welcome, Cape Club - Impressive new course opens this week on site of old layout - Cape Cod Times, By Rob Duca
NORTH FALMOUTH – The realization struck me that the new Cape Club golf course bears little resemblance to the former Ballymeade Country Club the moment I turned off Route 151 and spotted the sparkling pond and the Augusta style white-sand bunkers that surround the second hole. My initial impression was solidified on the first tee when I looked down a fairway that led straight to a slightly elevated green, with the trees that so often blocked approaches on what previously was a dogleg right hole no longer appearing so troublesome. This was my introduction to Cape Cod’s newest course, which opens for play on Wednesday. And let there be little doubt that this is a radically different course than what was once here. The new owners didn’t simply change the name, put up new signs and make a few cosmetic alterations. They spent two years tearing up the old Ballymeade with the goal of transforming the infamously quirky and difficult course into a more playable and enjoyable (but still challenging) layout.  “We excavated every hole, moved dirt from the tee boxes all the way to the greens, and then rebuilt and reshaped everything,” said Ryan Payne, head golf professional at the Cape Club. "Everywhere you walk now, from tee to green, is new.” More than 200,000 cubic yards of dirt was moved under the direction of Ron Despain, vice president of golf course development at Troon Golf, which will manage the property. Among the new features are elevated tee boxes that offer scenic ocean views; significantly wider fairways; white sand brought in from North Carolina for all the beautifully contoured bunkers; cart paths of white-crushed stone; Cadillac-style golf carts with white- and blue-trimmed bucket seats; and a state-of-the-art driving range with GPS technology providing ball speed and distance. Long-term plans include an upper deck driving range with flat-screen televisions and seating areas for dining or enjoying a beverage; an Infinity swimming pool and outside bar overlooking the course; a fitness center; and the construction of 80 golf cottages available for rental and 28 single-family homes for purchase. CLICK HERE to read complete article
